Welcome!

Making math concrete, fun, and relevant is our goal. We have a lot of ideas to share, so let's share them here. I'll begin by posting a video on how to easily teach the multiples of threes:

  1. I played a game to reinforce multiples and my students really enjoyed it!
Assign each student (or pairs of students) to make a list of the first ten multiples of a number. For example, write the first ten multiples of 8.
    (8,16,24,32,40,48,56,64,72,80)
Check student work then have them write one number on a half sheet of scrap paper (fairly large).
Collect the papers from all the students and mix them up (I had around 5 sets of multiples per game). In a large area (we used the hallway) spread the sheets of paper in a designated area.
The area is now a "swamp" and the papers are "stones." Students cannot step off the stones or they'll get eaten by crocodiles :)
The students work in pairs to get from one end of the swamp to the other by jumping only on multiples of the number you give them. (I had the 5 assigned numbers written on separate index cards. Each team picked a card.)
The bystanders could quietly cheer on the pair who's jumping. If the students are struggling, the bystanders can also start to skip count aloud by the multiple. So it also encourages teamwork :)
